6 confirmed methods to smile extra
A client recently realized that she wanted to smile more. After seeing herself in a number of corporate videos and in virtual meetings, she has found that when she smiles in her delivery, she conveys her arousal more naturally, motivating, and overall looking more like herself.
A natural smile is a powerful way to connect with others, and it can also have a positive effect on how we feel.
Here are some suggestions to help you smile more:
- Practice smiling in front of a mirror. Notice how it looks to others and how you feel. Make a note of this feeling so that you can recreate this moment.
- Put notes or a smiley picture in places that remind you to smile (ex. Home mirror, office computer, phone, car).
- Set a reminder on your phone that pings you every few hours.
- Make sure you smile at everyone you see.
- When entering video calls, make sure you open with a smile. If your role is in the office or on site, do your best to smile through your mask. It shows in your eyes.
- Have a moment of gratitude. Think, “Wow! I have a great life ……. “Because you do!
As with learning a new behavior, you need to create new habits. And if a smile doesn't feel real, don't. People can spot a fake smile a mile (or a foot) away.
