Inventive Futures Revisited: Kate Moross

As part of our 40th birthday celebrations, CR revisits the alumni from our almost 30-year Creative Futures program. Here the designer Kate Moross, introduced in 2008, leads us through her previous career

"I think it was unprecedented to be on the cover and in Creative Review at 21 and at university," says Kate Moross. While most of CR's Creative Futures alumni had at least a few years of experience in their selection, Moross (who identified himself as non-binary and used their pronouns) wasn't even fully involved in the world of work yet when she was in 2008 their last year at Camberwell College of Arts.

At that time, the designer had already connected to London's thriving nightlife scene and created myspace pages for various bands and countless club night flyers. However, their first major order came in the second year when they created a poster campaign for Cadbury. After graduation, they worked regularly with clients such as Vice and the record label Young Turks.

Moross' early success is all the more remarkable considering that it took place in a pre-Instagram world. "Now I think it wouldn't be that big of a deal because we are obviously more focused than ever on emerging and emerging talents, but it felt a bit like the old boys club back then … It was a completely different time than now and I think it really drove me, all this exposure. "
