What Executives Can Be taught From Faculty This Fall – Visitor Blogger Kate Bushnell
For all the parents out there, that back-to-school season comes with an extra dose of blues at the end of summer, which is fraught with emotion. The pandemic continues and there is so much uncertainty about what will come when schools, parents and children break new ground and new learning methods.
When there are more questions than answers
As a mother of a third grader and kindergarten teacher, I have more questions than answers. Will you be sure? Are you scared? Can you handle how different things will look? Will they be able to do their best? How do I talk about it so that they are not worried or disappointed? What's the right amount of information to share?
It is tempting to wait to speak to my children, hoping that there will be more clarity tomorrow or the next day. However, waiting is not the answer. It will only generate more concern and imagination.
Whether it is for our children about school or our teams about business, we need to talk about the difficult things more than ever now.
Big issues are ahead in today's business world. COVID-19. Uncertainty in business. Changes in the way we work. Inequalities in the workplace. Unconscious bias. Navigate change.
Speak through uncertainty
We need to talk about these things. We have to share what we know when we know. We can clear up myths that the grapevine is taking over. We can see it as an opportunity to find out things together. Let us find opportunities to listen and understand where others are from. Let's make meaningful connections and celebrate the small and big wins along the way.
We'll never have all the answers because everything is fluid right now. As the headmaster of my children so eloquently shared this week, we must be intentionally runny So we are ready to change, to control what we can, to communicate with intent and purpose, and to get the best out of any situation.
In what ways can you purposely be fluent in leading and communicating?
