Little Yellow Girl
My muma and pupa are black but I am yellow; at least that is what they call me.
They say slavery done! But we are really living in a modern day colony;
Run by our fellow black man.
“stay out the sun child! Ya gine ruin ya good complexion”
“Don’t worry girl, you could pass for white”
I am entitled to better treatment! Do you not see my snow white skin?
My good hair? I am not like you.
I struggle to wrap my brain around this difference; I am not like you,
But what am I?
I am not black nor am I white, so I resort to float in a sea of uncertainty and isolation,
Not ever once thinking that one day I’d be living my own nightmare-
The colonized; colonizing the colonized.
