BBC has launched a weird new advert marketing campaign for iPlayer

BBC iPlayer's new campaign, "Nowhere Else", aims to engage viewers at a time when a new streaming service appears every month.

It celebrates some of the most important people, programs and moments that can be enjoyed on iPlayer, including David Attenborough, RuPaul, Wimbledon and Masterchef.

The 12 films, made by Yousef and lasting no more than 20 seconds, feature animation, live action, archival footage, stop motion and illustration.

They mix up some unexpected combinations to create a surreal BBC world – they feature a miniature gymnast swinging out of RuPaul & # 39; s earrings, Ian Beale crying tears at Wimbledon and Louis Theroux and lovingly cradling Clive Myrie in his arms , in a kind of digital Russian puppet scenario.

The campaign feels very much inspired by the world of memes – suggesting that the BBC is targeting younger audiences – although some of the films manage to do so more successfully than others.

It will be seen across social media, outdoor and TV and will be accompanied by an identity update designed by Mirjami Qin and illustrated by Tim McDonagh, Jim Stoten and Benson Chin.
