How I work: Picture director Holly Hay

As the photo director of Wallpaper * magazine, Holly Hay talks about what her everyday life looks like and which projects she likes to work on

Holly Hay has been the picture editor of Wallpaper * magazine since 2017 and oversees the visual direction of every story in the magazine, from developing concepts for features to their final stages of production. Hay started out as a photographer after studying fashion communication at Central Saint Martins in London. Despite working regularly, she ultimately chose to prefer others' images to her own, which resulted in her taking on roles that enabled her to do more jobs and develop relationships with photographers.

Prior to Wallpaper *, Hay previously worked as a photo editor at AnOther Magazine and held several roles at Garage Magazine. In addition to her role at Wallpaper *, Hay is also an art buyer and editor. She believes these more personal freelance projects allow her to keep her ideas updated and to build on her ever-growing list of contacts.

Here CR talks to Hay about how she got started in the industry, the importance of working together in a magazine, and how Wallpaper * inspires her.
