Reporters With out Borders advert articulates the very important function of journalism
A new ad for the nonprofit Reporters Without Borders shows viscerally the vital role journalists play in the world
The website of the charity Reporters Without Borders (Reporters Without Borders) tracks the number of journalist deaths each year. There are currently 43 deaths in 2020 with another 258 currently jailed on charges related to their work.
With this in mind, the charity that aims to protect freedom of the press has released a new ad highlighting the vital role journalists play in exposing corruption and abuse around the world.
Created by BETC and directed by Vincent Rodella, the spot shows a number of situations journalists regularly uncover: the abuse of prisoners, the deaths of migrants and refugees, and women and girls forced into unwanted marriages.
As the report progresses, it is pointed out that these cases would go unheard without the support of reporters and that "reality only exists when someone reports it". In a time of increasing conspiracy theories and allegations of fake news against the media by those in power, this work is clearly more important than ever.
