6 suggestions for worker development and growth
Taking an active role in developing your team shows confidence and concern for the future of the company. It also gives employees feelings of meaning, community, and worth.
When you create a culture where employees achieve their goals and know that their thoughts and insights are valued, you increase productivity, morale, and engagement.
Put these six tips into practice to fuel employee growth:
1. Promotion of professional development
Employees with high potential are not satisfied with the status quo. If given the right guidance in their development, they will become the future leaders of your organization.
2. Create a development plan
Help your employees set goals that are aligned with their strengths, interests, and experiences, as well as the overall business strategy. Set goals and expectations to target career opportunities.
3. Pair employees with mentors
Find someone who has a role similar to that of the employee. Mentoring relationships can foster positive and productive working relationships, and help employees learn and receive encouragement and support in their careers. When coached with encouragement, your people can help your company adapt to change and move to the next level of success.
4. Help them build their networks
Recommend opportunities within the company, networking or professional groups that will help them form strong connections.
5. Challenge employees with tasks
Let your employees leave their comfort zones. Employees can't move forward if they don't grow, and they can't grow if they never leave their comfort zones.
6. Show employees that you trust them
If you want to help the staff develop, trust them to get their job done by getting out of their way. Let them know what your expectations are by modeling expected behavior – show them that you trust them. This not only shows employees what they need to be successful and gives them more personal responsibility, but also shows them that credibility and trust are important in your company.
