Present that you simply care: four important methods for constructing suggestions channels in your group
Employees who are strongly committed to their work work better than their less committed colleagues and increase company results. Unsurprisingly, building employee engagement involves two-way communication – both to and from employees.
Leadercommunicators – leaders who understand the importance of communication and know how not to lead without communicating well – involve employees in various means of communication that help them connect the dots between individual efforts and organizational goals. Just as important as any leadership message, however, is to have systems that allow employees to gather input and demonstrate their importance to the company.
By establishing channels to nurture and relay employee-to-executive feedback, you create a critical structure to support employee engagement. Here are a few steps to take to create it.
4 steps to building employee feedback channels in your organization:
- Understand your audience and what is important to themThe number one priority in building engagement is giving employees the information they need to do a successful job and making sure they know where to find additional resources. The nature of the organization, the job, and the level of the employee determine the most effective channel to meet your needs. Your efforts are most effective when you first ask yourself, "What is the most important thing these people want to know, what is the best way to foster dialogue, and how would they be most comfortable sharing posts?" "
- Select or create channelsWith the audience and work environment in mind, look for the best ways to get employees to share their ideas and insights. You can use existing channels or create new ones. Remember that feedback channels can be informal – for example, when executives are in conversation at the moment or supervisors asking for input – or they can be more formal mechanisms that invite ideas and questions in print or through technology. When determining which channels work best, consider the time invested, availability, and access of employees to technology. Make sure they can use feedback mechanisms during and after work.
- Collect / promote feedbackWhen you're ready to implement and nurture feedback channels across the organization, you will realize that what you do with their input will appeal to employees. When leaders respond quickly to ideas and questions, employees get the message that their contributions are valued and they become more engaged and engaged. Assign someone to make sure the feedback gets the respect it deserves to react personally and immediately to all concerns and ideas of employees.
- Respond to feedbackHighly committed employees are enthusiastic about their organization and believe that they can positively influence its success. Respond to employee feedback Highlighting the impact employees are making is a powerful engagement builder. Make sure all employees know how their colleagues' suggestions or ideas will be implemented. By regularly sharing results and requesting additional feedback, predictable, consistent two-way communication is created that encourages employees to take responsibility and understand that their ideas are valued by the organization.
