Writer and writer Mat Groom tells the story behind his parallel careers in branding and comics, including the unexpected connections between the two and his thoughts on the rise in sideline employment
As the lead storyteller at Australian branding studio For The People, Mat Groom writes for a wide range of brands and organizations. Most recently, he oversaw a narrative visual identity for an independent cafe in Sydney, a regional branding project for the west coast of Tasmania, and a new branding voice for the Women and Girls Emergency Center, which provides protection and support for women at risk of domestic violence and homelessness.
Four days a week, he helps companies uncover the stories they want to tell and the words they want to tell them with. On the fifth day, however, Groom switches to his burgeoning career as a comic book writer. Although he's still an emerging voice in the field, he published his first comic book Self / Made through the Walking Dead publisher Image Comics and made it to Marvel Comics 'The Rise of Ultraman'. and DC's Crimes of Passion.
