Wix has proven again why it is considered a major player in the industry. While Squarespace isn't on the list, it has its own perks that appeal to those with certain criteria.
Squarespace wins
Unlimited storage: All Squarespace Premium plans offer unlimited bandwidth and storage, so you can host unlimited files while ensuring media files download smoothly. While most Wix plans offer unlimited bandwidth, none of them offer unlimited storage, so you can't just upload files to your heart's content.
Structured page editor: Squarespace doesn't have the exact drag-and-drop functionality Wix is known for. The page elements are packed into blocks of content that you can move around and snap into rows and columns. As restrictive as it may seem, this feature allows you to create your page in a controlled environment to avoid accidentally sloppy designs.
High quality, professional template designs: Wix may have more templates to choose from, but Squarespace outperforms its competitors in terms of quality. It has 60+ template designs that are not only aesthetically superior, but are also easier to navigate for both the builder and the viewer. Regardless of which template you originally selected, you can always adjust it or replace it with a different one.

Demanding e-commerce functionality: When it comes to building your online store, Squarespace Wix is giving a run for its money. It offers the same basic functionality as found in Wix, such as custom email receipts, point of sale systems, and automatic cart recovery.
To maximize your profits, Squarespace is enhancing its game with features that Wix doesn't. This includes gift cards to help you promote your brand. You can also use back in stock and low stock notifications to create a sense of urgency without being overly intrusive.
24/7 online support: If you are having technical issues with your Squarespace website, you can contact the customer support team via email, Twitter, or live chat. The team can use these online channels to get to the bottom of your problem more quickly.
Squarespace has excluded phone support as the existing support channels allow them to fully resolve your issues without putting you on hold.
Squarespace Loss
Lacks an intuitive drag-and-drop interface. Squarespace's page editor works like a minimalist grid system, so you can't drag and drop items as freely as possible. Less freedom means less opportunity to play around with the design. It also takes longer to get used to, so Squarespace isn't as beginner-friendly as Wix.
Limited creative control: The biggest advantage of Squarespace is also its disadvantage. The "structured" editor may allow you to customize a website design within acceptable limits. However, it also means you have less creative control.
The templates are professionally designed, but you cannot edit, move, resize, or recolor the page elements as easily as you can with Wix. You also cannot view the website title and logo at the same time.
Limited original designs. Fewer design decisions also make it harder to stand out. For example, most photographers trust Squarespace to host their portfolio websites.
Since there are only a limited number of templates to choose from, you are more likely to choose the same template. As a result, they may end up with portfolio websites that have the same look and feel as other websites in their industry.
Less generous ecommerce plans: Squarespace outperforms Wix's ecommerce capabilities, but you won't get that much benefit if you're just subscribed to the basic plan.
Squarespace's basic e-commerce features are $ 18 per month (Business Plan), while its Wix counterpart is slightly higher at $ 23 per month (Basic Business Plan). However, you won't save as much as Squarespace charges a 3% transaction fee with a basic plan unless you upgrade.
You also won't have access to some key features like abandoned cart recovery if you're not on the Advanced Commerce plan, which costs $ 40 a month.
In contrast, Wix does not charge a transaction fee for any of its e-commerce plans and offers a restoration of the abandoned cart on the basic plan as well.

Squarespace, on the other hand, only offers four pricing tiers, starting with the personal plan for $ 12 per month. There is no free plan included, and most key features are only available in higher plans.
Beginner-friendly interface: Wix's drag-and-drop editor remains the main selling point. You are provided with a template that will allow you to create a simple website in minutes without learning to code. Squarespace is also a "no-coding" website builder, but its grid-style editor makes it cumbersome for some beginners. With Wix, you have full control over the layout and can even add functionality by dragging and dropping widgets onto your page.

Free email marketing tools: With this built-in feature, you can send email campaigns to your contact list and even create workflows to manage your own sales funnel. Measure how well each of your campaigns are doing with the statistics tracker, which shows you how many people are opening your emails and working on them.

Multiple customer support channels: Unlike Squarespace, Wix offers phone support, so you can be sure that people, not bots, are addressing your concerns. Wix also provides support through forums, social media, and email, but not through live chat. In case you get stuck or confused while working on the page editor, small question marks will appear on the screen that you can also click for quick solutions without leaving the page.
Automatic backup and restore function: Wix is a proactive website builder that anticipates unfortunate events and has developed a counter-function in case they do occur.
You can revert to a previous version of your website using the site history, which you can find in your site settings. You can restore revised versions of your website whether it was saved manually or automatically.
Best of all, it can revert to the previously saved version of your website without affecting published blog posts and changes to your email list.
Wix losses
Overwhelming stencil designs: Wix design focuses on quantity over quality. The 500+ customizable templates surpass Squarespace's 70+ designs. However, with more choices, there is more time wasted on choosing and over-analyzing which best fits a website idea.
A “quantity over quality” approach also means that many Wix templates don't make a good first impression. While there are hidden gems, it takes time to find as they are outnumbered by generic templates, some of which are downright cheesy.
Unstructured page editor: The Wix drag-and-drop interface has its own shortcomings. While even non-professionals can create websites quickly, the changes you make to the desktop version don't necessarily have to be synced to the mobile version. For example, if you move an image down from the top of the page, the same change will not be reflected in the mobile version unless you make the same change twice. With Squarespace's structured editor, movements are much more restricted, but any change you make will show up in both screens.
Complicated color changes: Wix lacks Squarespace's preselected color palettes, so changing text and background colors is not that easy. This is the disadvantage of greater freedom in editing page elements. You may be free to choose the colors of the individual page elements. However, if you don't have a background in the design, it can be very difficult to know which colors work best without preset recommendations.
Limited bandwidth and storage space: Wix doesn't have the unlimited resources that Squarespace has in all of its plans. The cheaper your Wix plan, the more restrictions you will get on how many files you can store and how much traffic your website can receive per day.
The cheapest tariffs from Wix, Connect Domain and Combo, only offer a bandwidth of 1 GB and 2 GB respectively. This is enough if your website only receives a handful of visitors per month. However, once a website has at least 1,000 visitors per day, it will require around 8.5 GB of bandwidth per month, which Wix only offers from the Unlimited plan, which costs $ 12.50 per month (billed annually).
Mediocre blogging tools: You can create a decent blog using Wix. However, if you're looking for more features, Squarespace is the place to go. Wix has the ability to schedule posts, add tags or categories, and save drafts. Comment moderation is not allowed, however, so you cannot filter comments and only post those that you agree to. In addition, Wix does not have a built-in blogging feature. You must add the free Wix Blog App yourself before you can start creating content.
Limited flexibility for free plans: When you start a free website with Wix, you pay nothing, but it comes at the cost of flexibility. The Wix subdomain, ads, and appearance of a free website tend to be less professional. If you want to experiment with a free website, that's fine, but you'll need to upgrade to premium Wix plans to really establish your own brand.
