Renault presents a brand new brand in op artwork type
Three-dimensional logos may work perfectly on hoods, but many car brands have found that they don't translate as well online. Companies like Volkswagen, Mini, and Nissan have flattened their icons in recent years, and it's not hard to see why.
The latest addition, Renault is redesigning its existing 3D diamond from 1992 in favor of a geometric symbol somewhat reminiscent of the popular Woolmark logo (which is considered by some to be the best logo ever made). .
The work (called “Renaulution” by the brand) was done in-house and is clearly geared towards digital use. In a video about the new logo, Gilles Vidal, Design Director at Renault, explains how important it is to keep the diamond shape that has existed in one form or another since 1925, while at the same time creating “fresh and new values for the future”. However, the logo is somewhat similar to the 1972 brand, which also featured a series of interconnected stripes.
"Now it made sense to go back to flat design, which corresponds to our time, and still move it through the interplay of two intertwined diamond shapes to create movement, interaction and complementarity," says Vidal. Who emphasizes that the flat logo is better suited for websites, apps, smartphones and screens in cars.
The first model with the updated logo will appear in 2022 and by 2024 all Renault vehicles will have the new symbol.
