Are you interested in using it SEO to build your brand? Or do you want to use SEO to get more leads and sales?
Most importantly, you want to avoid the common error hold back the leaderboards?
Well today I thought I was going to do something different.
I wanted to summarize how to get a crash course in SEO.
Best of all, I wanted to do this without you having to spend a dollar.
today We're going to examine 10 guides and 5 courses that you can rely on to improve your SEO knowledge. Although some guides and courses have a similar title and focus, the information and advice in each guide is unique and valuable.
Let's begin!
10 SEO guides
1. SEO made easy (a step-by-step guide) – Are you new to the world of search engine optimization? In this case, a beginner's guide is exactly what you need (more of these to come).
That's why I wrote this guide:
- It is really intended for beginners who take advanced technical details out of the equation.
- It is broken down into easily digestible sections, each with a main focus.
- It's full of screenshots, videos, pictures, and infographics, all of which paint a clearer picture of what it takes to be successful.
2. SEO periodic table – This guide is a little different from most of the others. It is more of a visual format that breaks down the elements of search engine optimization.

It's important to know every factor that can affect search engine optimization as every little bit adds up.
Unlike other marketing channels, SEO is one where you have to get a lot of little things right in order to get traction.
3. Starter's Guide to Search Engine Optimization – If you could learn SEO from one person or company, who would it be? Most people will overlook the obvious answer: Google.
Everyone wants to rank higher on Google. After all, it is the search engine of choice for the majority of the world.
If you are new to SEO and want to learn from the front runner, this starter guide is your new best friend.
The main benefit of this guide is that you don't have to worry about whether the information is correct or not. They know that every piece of advice is spot on as it comes from the master of all search engines.
With 32 pieces of advice ranging from SEO basics to mobile optimization, there's a reason so many new marketers keep this guide close by.
Just because you're new to SEO doesn't mean you can afford to make mistakes. The Google Search Engine Optimization Starter Guide is a quick, efficient, and effective way to get up and running while avoiding common mistakes that have plagued millions of people before you.
4. The Beginner's Guide to SEO – Moz made one of the first SEO guides. And they tend to update it every year as well.
This detailed manual consists of 10 chapters that start with “How Search Engines Work” and lead to “Measure and Track Success”.
In between, you'll get advice on why search engine marketing is important to your business, how to create links without being penalized, and common SEO myths and misconceptions.
You can read the guide online or download the PDF.
The Beginner's Guide to SEO deserves to be read from start to finish. Even if you have some SEO knowledge, this guide can help improve your skills.

5. The Blogger's Guide to Search Engine Optimization – No two people share exactly the same goals for their website. For example, a blogger may not take the same approach to SEO as an ecommerce business.
And with over a billion blogs online, you should know SEO when it comes to blogging specifically.
SEOBook goes far beyond providing information exclusively for bloggers.
Also read the “Why Blogs Are Different From Static Websites” section.
You may already know the difference, but those new to this field may be confused. Here is an excerpt from the section that shows the targeted yet simplified nature of the guide:
SEO for a blog is different from SEO for most other websites mainly because of the social elements built into blogging technology. SEO for blogs is more focused on getting people to talk to and creating something that deserves attention.
As a blogger interested in SEO, you want to rely on advice that most closely matches your wants, needs, and goals. This is why this guide from SEOBook is a must have. It's supposed to give your blog's SEO a shot in the arm.
6. Everything you need to know about SEO – You won't be a SEO novice forever. When you're ready for the next step, this advanced SEO guide is a good place to start.
This is how I describe the guide:
The most comprehensive, detailed guide to advanced SEO techniques in existence today.
Every guide on this list is solid. Each guide should be read when you have the time, as the information is presented in a unique way.
But when it comes to the most in-depth and actionable information on advanced SEO techniques, I think this guide has the edge.
It's not so much about length (nine chapters), but about depth and use of examples. This is what I mean:

The guide doesn't just ask you to create an SEO friendly title. It doesn't just tell you how long you want your title to be. It gives you actionable advice on how to make changes for the better. In addition, the screenshots give you a “visual” overview of how you can achieve this.
There is a lot to learn when you dig into the advanced details of SEO. This guide ensures that you don't overlook anything that could improve or detract from your ranking.
7. The full list of Google's 200 ranking factors – I mentioned above how you have to do everything in search engine optimization to get a ranking.
It is not enough to just create links.
It's not enough to just write amazing content.
It's not enough to just tweak your meta tags.
You see, everyone does the main parts of SEO. However, what most websites don't do is make sure everything is correct.
Now imagine if you did everything right? Your ranking would be much higher.
I recommend going through each of the 200 ranking factors.
8. The Ultimate Guide to Ecommerce SEO – Ecommerce websites are very different from traditional websites.
Pages or product pages are usually listed for the pages that should rank high on Google. Because these are the types of pages that will increase your sales.
What's special about this guide is that it teaches you everything you need to know about SEO for ecommerce websites. Because link building, content creation, schema markup, and even optimization of loading time are different on ecommerce websites.

It works for all platforms too. It doesn't matter if you're using Shopify, Bigcommece, or even Wix, it works for all of them.
9. 19 Advanced SEO Techniques To Double Your Search Traffic – As I mentioned a few times above, every little thing adds up with SEO, especially since it's so competitive now.
Just doing the basics is not enough. You have to go way beyond your competition.
That's why I would read this guide which breaks down 19 advanced tactics.
Each of these tactics are very effective in increasing your SEO traffic. Before you implement them, however, you should consider the basics.
Because without the basics, the advanced tactics won't be of much use.
For example, if your URLs aren't SEO friendly, which is a beginner's tactic, Google may not be able to crawl your website. Whichever advance strategy you use, it doesn't have much of an impact.
10. Link working resources – Links are the cornerstone of SEO. Think of them as voices.
The more votes someone gets, the higher their rank.
But not all voices (links) are created equal. Those from authoritative sites like CNN or Yahoo have more impact. And the more a link is attached to your website, the better off you'll be.
How do you get links when you have little or no resources or money to spend on a large SEO firm?
Well, this guide breaks it down. The different ways to create links are described.
From creating free tools to writing guides to contacting them manually … there are many ways, and you can learn them all from this guide.
5 SEO courses
1. SEO activated – This is a 7 week course on SEO. But don't worry, with the 7 week number, every video is short and actionable.
In total, you will find 21 videos broken down over a period of 7 weeks. Each video is 5 to 15 minutes long.
Each video comes with cheat sheets, worksheets, and templates to make SEO easy to implement.
This way, once you learn a particular SEO tactic or strategy, you will get documentation on how to use and implement it.
2. Ecommerce SEO 101 Video Series – Here is one SEO course from the largest e-commerce platform, Shopify.
This is not just a course for someone with a general interest in SEO. This is a course for online store owners who want to improve their rankings to increase traffic and increase sales and profits.
The course includes seven videos, all of which are free to watch. Some of my favorites are:
- Why is your shop not on Google?
- How does Google rate your ecommerce store?
- Keyword Research: Which Search Phrases Should You Rank For?
The videos aren't long enough to make you bored, but they are long enough to give you a glimpse into the subject.
Online store owners know that the difference between success and failure can be solely in their ability to generate organic traffic. If you're looking to improve this area of your ecommerce business, the Shopify video series is a great place to start.

3. Moz's SEO training course – Moz is back on the list, this time with a training course offered through the Udemy platform.
This free training course provides the tips and tricks you need to implement a successful SEO strategy.
Think of this course as an extension of the SEO guide for beginners. With five lectures and over an hour of video content, you'll leave the course feeling better about your website's ranking.
The titles of the lectures are as follows:
- Create a monthly SEO action plan
- 5 ways to use your social profiles for SEO
- Keyword targeting will be difficult!
- Link building with Twitter
- Assigning keywords to content
This course is aimed at marketers of all levels. So take the time to sign up and dive in. It's free so you really have nothing to lose.

4. Free Download: On-Page SEO Template – It's hard to classify this as a traditional course, but it definitely fits the mold in some ways.
The on-page SEO template is available for free from HubSpot. It is designed with the aim of helping marketers track on-page SEO elements.
The template will make it easier for you:
- Track changes in one place.
- Organization of your on-page SEO strategy.
- Implementation of SEO elements that lead to results.
- Coordinate keywords and pages without confusion.
As a free download, you should at least check whether this template from HubSpot can offer you SEO value. You will likely find that it is good to stick around as you make changes to the page.

5. Local SEO activated – If you are a local business this course is perfect for you. It divides the local search engine optimization into 2 weeks.
The course contains 6 videos as well as worksheets, cheat sheets and templates to help you put what you have learned into practice.
And similar to SEO Unlocked, every video is short and to the point.
Here is an overview of what you will learn:
- overview – an overview of local SEO.
- Local SEO signals – What affects local rankings?
- Google My Business – how to use it to rank higher on Google.
- content – how to create ranked local content.
- On- and off-page SEO – the main elements of SEO that you need to optimize for.
- Secret recipe – the key ingredient for a good ranking on Google.
SEO tools
There are many SEO tools out there that can help you improve your ranking.
I may be a bit biased for creating it, but I would start with Ubersuggest.
The reason I would recommend it to other SEO tools is because you can get started for free.
From rank tracking to website audits to link building and keyword research, you can do all aspects of search engine optimization for free.
Here is a preview of the Ubersuggest site audit report.

I recommend that you start out with Ubersuggest by doing a site review first. Just enter your url here.
And after that, I recommend that you create a project so that you can track your SEO progress. This way you can track your rankings and be notified when something good or bad happens to your SEO, or when your competition does something new.

If you are looking to get the most out of Ubersuggest, this guide should be read.
Conclusion
Even if you don't have the time to go through everything, choose a course or two first.
Something is better than nothing. And you don't have to do it all in one day as it would be unrealistic.
If I were you, I'd first create an Ubersuggest project and then go through the SEO Unlocked training course.
From there, you can go through the other courses and guides in any order. But I would start here.
There are plenty of paid options on the internet as well, but I'd start with the free options above because you will get enough of them to get results.
What do you think of these guides and courses?
