Ask Anna: How do I discover a inventive accomplice?
Our aunt, who lives in the creative industry, deals with an age-old question from a reader: How do you find a good work partner? Here she offers a number of solutions, including polyamory
Dear Anna,
I would love to offer advice on finding a partner if you are first starting out as a creative.
I spent exactly one year in Adland to do internships. After I just broke up with my last partner, I'm looking for a teammate again.
I understand the advantages of a partner: two heads, two lives, two perspectives and experiences will always be better than one. But as an autodidact, I don't really see myself as a copywriter or art director. I sucked on both of them so I took the time to learn both practices. So what am I looking for?
I know the difference between a clear, original idea and one that isn't. But what else should I try to find? A partner with common moral standards? Mine are low, ngl. Can I find someone who is a strong writer, or an AD, or someone who can work through the whole process better? Is there a compatibility test? Are there matchmakers? Does Love Island have a creative partner? Please send help.
