How I work: Andrea Love

We immerse ourselves in the world of the stop-motion animator Andrea Love, who explains her love for wool, what autodidact brings to her work and the joy of “moving inanimate objects and bringing them to life”.

The warmth and charm of Andrea Love's stop-motion animations have created a loyal following on social media. Love is based in Port Townsend, Washington, and studied video production and film at university. Since then, she has gradually taught herself animation over the years.

Most of Love's work specializes in stop motion and is made from needle felt wool. This texture gives her work a cozy aesthetic that sits on Twee's right as she tells stories of everyday events, reinterprets fairy tales, and touches on broader topics like age, family, and fear.

Love works from her basement and has been featured at festivals like the LA Shorts Fest and Tribeca. She has also built a commercial career creating spots for a variety of different brands. Here the animator talks about being self-taught, developing a style and how she lets her basement work as a studio.
