Anthony Burrill designed a seven-story mural for Leeds
Black and white lettering is 88 feet high in the designer's greatest work of art to date, which adorns the end of a historic building on the canal in the city
Burrill worked with multidisciplinary studio Bread Collective, street art initiative In Good Company, and real estate company King & Co to bring the mural to life. The first ideas for the piece came in mid-2019, though In Good Company founder and curator Laura Wellington says the design couldn't feel more relevant for the current time.
“From the beginning it was planned that this piece would be there for the people of Leeds for centuries, but I think it's the perfect message of oneness to start around 2021 – a year where continued connection and fellowship are so important she explains.
Burrill, who studied graphic design in Leeds, says the city made a "strong impression" on him and his artistic practice – something he was able to repay with the piece. His tall type and simple message are characteristic of the artist's work, but feel particularly resonant at a time when togetherness can feel like a distant concept.
The mural – 32-34 The Calls – is the latest project from In Good Company, which has spearheaded several other public works of art, including works by Morag Myerscough and Mr Penfold.
