Ask Anna: How can I advance my artistic profession in lockdown?
Our painful aunt Anna Higgs is advising a design graduate how to get attention – and hopefully a job – while the usual ways of networking are currently closed
Dear Anna,
My name is Rory and I am a graphic design student in my last year at Loughborough University. I am in the final phase of my studies, working on my final projects and preparing for the next steps in my design career. However, as you can imagine in the current climate of the world of work, there is not only great uncertainty for people at work, but also for graduates who are hoping for their first rise in a creative career. Due to the possible cancellation of my final show and other networking events like the D & AD New Blood Festival and the slow decline of the job market, I don't know what to do. Is there any advice you could give future graduates?
Thank you for your consideration and I look forward to hearing from you.
Rory
Dear Rory,
What time to be alive? I could list all the adversity sayings that make us stronger, but leaving education for the creative industry can be a challenge at best, so I feel now for you and all newcomers to the world of work.
Still, I'm a big fan of reshaping things where we can find creative benefits. This is not an easy case to find a silver lining, since in this analogy a large cloud still occupies most of the space. I mean, we think about a challenge so that we can become more innovative.
