Cheese is a brand new journal for the Fromage fanatic

In the midst of lockdown, when many of us were discovering the joys of sourdough, gaucho manager Jean-Baptiste Beroud pondered cheese – and, more specifically, the lack of magazines dedicated to it. Together with journalist and Voices At the Table founder Anna Sulan Masing, writer Apoorva Sripathi, and designer Holly Catford, he set out to make one.

The first edition of Cheese covers a wide range of milk-related topics – including an introduction to the different cheeses, the beauty of cheese label design, the traditions of making and preserving Manchego cheese, and a photo story by Francesco Brembati Milan's market stalls, some of which are over 90 Sell cheeses.

In addition to numerous illustrations and images celebrating the beauty of cream cheese, the magazine, which is laid out with cheddar yellow lashes, examines the cultural narrative behind cheese. This includes its history and lore, as well as the way it brings the world together. Along the way, it reveals some facts that are probably less known to the average cheese enthusiast, including the story of Tomme de Semmancheri made in Chennai.

The cheese team appears to be working on a "Shop the Issue" feature that will allow readers to read about cheese first and then buy it.

Cheese is published quarterly and the first edition is available now for £ 10. thecheesemagazine.com
