Delegate and promote ambassadors to encourage worker engagement
Employee retention is a continuous journey and not the result of an "event". You have to work on it every day, and when employees see you making that extra effort, they will do the same.
Here are two tips you can work on today to drive engagement:
- The power of delegation
Have you ever said, "It's just easier to do it yourself?" or "Why do I bother, it isn't done the way I want it to be?" Often times, when you find yourself saying these types of phrases, you and your communications – or lack of it – are the ones to blame or spot it first. Very often we don't delegate well because we don't take the time to clearly communicate our expectations.
This is a great example of the "I don't have time to communicate" myth. You do this when you find that the time you spend communicating is preventing problems and will usually reward you by creating more time in the long run.
- The growing influence of ambassadors
Companies are increasingly getting great results when they include employee ambassadors on their teams. Whether the ambassadors are part of a formal group or simply tapped into as some of your vocal supporters of the company, there are ways to get them involved! Especially during Times of changeThese ambassadors can work on the front lines to generate buy-in for the company's new direction.
Building this team of ambassadors over time can be an especially smart way to build a broad base of employee fans to openly defend and support the company's long-term visions and goals. In many ways, they can act as a natural extension of your employee communications team. You can also lengthen your eyes and ears so you can stay up to date on what's really in the business.
