Dispo 101: Every thing in regards to the Dispo app

Do you remember disposable cameras? Well, they're making a comeback, but this time it's all online. It's called the Dispo app.

Dispo is essentially the one-way camera for the modern audience. It's fun, authentic and causes a stir on the internet. According to Axios, the company is already valued at over $ 200 million and has raised over $ 20 million in funding.

Below, I'll break down everything you need to know about Dispo, who is on the app, and how you can use it for your digital marketing efforts.

What is the Dispo App?

Dispo is an iOS app founded by David Dobrik, a social media personality. He founded the app in 2019 under the name "David & # 39; s Disposables", but later renamed it "Dispo".

The app lets you take unfiltered photos and post them online, much like we used to use single-use cameras and Polaroids. It is this rawness that distinguishes Dispo from similar apps like Instagram.

Since it's still in beta testing, it's currently only available for iOS and only people with an invitation can use the app.

How does dispo work? Let's try it out.

How does the Dispo app work?

If there is one way to describe Dispo, it is: simplicity.

All you do is take a picture and wait until 9:00 the next day for it to "develop" and show up in the app. At Dispo, everything revolves around life in the moment. So you cannot upload pictures from your camera roll or edit your photos.

how to use the dispo app

There's a flash wheel and you can switch between the front and rear cameras, but it's a simple, no-frills app. Even so, the user interface is colorful, fun, and easy to use. If you're looking for a little nostalgia, Dispo could be great!

A word of warning: some Android apps look like Dispo, but they are not the "real" thing.

Who uses Dispo?

Dispo is geared towards Millennials and Gen Z, so we're talking about users ages 6 to 40.

That's a pretty broad age group, but they're all looking for the same two things: retro vibe and authenticity.

  • Gen Z longs for authenticity and the raw, unfiltered look.
  • Millennials love a little nostalgia, and many still remember the days when single-use cameras were the cool thing.
  • Retro tech like Polaroids is popular with Gen Z and millennials alike.

The result? You might want to try Dispo if you're targeting this demographic.

How do I get an invitation to the Dispo app?

The easiest thing to do is to wait for the app to be made available to a wider audience. However, if you're interested in trying out the app before it's official release, you have a few options.

buy online

If you comb through sites like eBay, you can find overdraft invitations for sale. Just make sure the seller is legit before parting with your money.

Another platform on which users sell overdraft invitations is Buy Me a Coffee. It's a simple premise: buy the seller a few coffees and get an invite in return. You will also receive additional invitations so that you can pass the "chain" on.

Should you pay for an overdraft facility? The choice is yours, but remember that this is not an exclusive app. There is currently limited availability as it is still in the testing phase. If you hold out a little longer, you may have the option to join for free.

Use your network

You don't have to pay for an early dispo invitation if you know people who are already using the app.

If someone in your network mentions the use of Dispo, ask them how they like the app and invite them to send an additional invitation your way. Sure, there's no guarantee they'll pass it on, but it doesn't hurt to ask.

Don't you know anyone in the app? Check out platforms like Reddit where users can offer additional invitations to the wider community.

Ask Dispo

There is no reason why you cannot contact Dispo and ask for early access.

DM the team on Twitter or Instagram and see what happens. They are more likely to honor your request if you agree to review the app or cause some publicity.

How can brands and marketers use Dispo?

Dispo is ideal for brands and marketers who want to build an authentic brand presence on social media.

  • You cannot use Dispo to advertise in the same way that you advertise other apps. Strong advertising not only violates the app's "be yourself" guidelines, it doesn't work that way either. It is based entirely on photography.
  • Focus more on you, the person behind the brand, than on your company.
  • Use Dispo to find out more about your target group instead of just selling to them.

An attempt is made to keep Dispo free of marketing content and brand advertising that we see elsewhere. With this in mind, there are three ways to get the most out of the app as a marketing tool:

Choose a good Dispo user name

Social apps like Dispo are all about first impressions. What makes a good username in the app? Well, there are no hard and fast rules, but here are some guidelines:

  • Keep it relevant. Make sure people can easily identify your brand by your username.
  • Do not use advertising language. For example, avoid expressions such as "looking for a customer" or "discount codes here" as they will become too salable.

There's no reason you can't use your company name or tagline, especially if it's something cool, unique, and catchy. Remember, Dispo is about having fun and not taking yourself seriously. Whatever you do, reflect it in your username.

Create Dispo Photo "Rolls"

The “Rolls” overhead photo is a pretty unique feature. In essence, multiple users can add photos to the same role (or album). This is a great way to meet new people, connect with your audience, and distinguish yourself as a collaborative, user-centric brand.

First, tap the bar below to start a new role.

Next, choose a name for your role and decide whether it's public or private. For you to be aware, anyone can see a public role and you can open it up for people to add to it.

When you're done create your roll and take photos!

Think of Rolls as if you were walking a disposable camera around an event. They all add pictures to the same album, making for a fun, collaborative experience for everyone.

Be yourself on overdraft

If there's one thing people love, it's authenticity. Do not you believe me? Some statistics could change your mind:

  • According to Stackla, 86 percent of consumers value authenticity when choosing brands.
  • At the same time, around 57 percent of buyers believe that brands are not authentic.
  • As can be seen from the data submitted by CNBC, authenticity is important to Gen Z. Of the people surveyed, 67 percent felt someone was cool when they remained true to who they were.

Since Gen Z is one of the people who use social apps like Dispo the most, their opinion matters.

If you are still not convinced, I would like to draw your attention to Dispo’s community guidelines. Everyone who uses the app has to be "real" at all times. Counterfeiters won't make it.

Guidelines for the Dispo App Community

In other words, don't try to curate a bogus brand message on overdraft, even if you think it might help you stand out. It is always good practice to be authentic, both in the app and in all marketing in general.

How can you present yourself on overdraft facility against this background?

Here are some tips:

  • Avoid unwanted advertisements. They contradict the spirit of the app.
  • Don't just talk about your business on overdraft facility. Have fun with the app and show what makes you and your team unique.
  • Be human. Engage with your audience, post regularly, and do your best at all times.

Invite people to join Dispo

Don't forget to expand your network. Otherwise, you will not be able to get the most out of the app. Fortunately, it's quick and easy to send out app invitations once you're at Dispo.

First switch to the settings menu and tap on the "Invite" option.

Next, scroll through your contact list and choose who you want to invite. You only get around 20 invitations the first time you join, and it's not clear when (or if) you will be offered more invitations. In other words, use them wisely!

Tap a contact and send them a message. You can use the standard message or send a custom invitation.

Finally, you will receive a notification when someone accepts your invitation.

The app works best when you share pictures with others. The more invitations you send out, the better.

What do I do while I wait for my overdraft facility?

While you're waiting for an invite (and let's face it, you could wait a while), focus your attention on other social media apps and marketing strategies.

Build your Instagram presence

Instagram is one of the world's largest social media platforms. It is home to around 1 billion monthly active users and continues to grow.

From a marketing standpoint, this is the only platform that you shouldn't ignore:

  • Use the Instagram algorithm to improve the visibility of posts.
  • Post content regularly and engage with users.
  • Use relevant hashtags to drive engagement.

Check out TikTok

With around 100 million active users in the US alone, TikTok is a popular app with great marketing potential. Here are some ideas to make the most of it:

  • Create marketing videos to showcase products or launch campaigns.
  • Get to know TikTok SEO to optimize your content based on the search results on the platform.
  • Use TikTok ads to highlight your goods and services.

Discover influencer marketing

Whether you're working with developers on TikTok or reaching out to influencers on Instagram, influencer marketing can help you reach a wider audience. Not sure where to start?

Keep the following tips in mind:

  • Take the time to find the right influencers for your brand.
  • Set a realistic budget.
  • Make your campaigns available to your chosen influencers, register them and post some hashtags on social media.

Create informative content

Stand out from the crowd by creating useful content that your audience can learn from. Here are a few options:

  • Create how-to videos to show people how to get the most out of your products.
  • Write informative blogs to keep your followers informed and inspired.
  • Gather a few e-books and distribute them as part of an inbound marketing campaign.

Spend time establishing yourself as a thought leader in your industry. Make your audience feel part of something progressive.

Communicate with your audience

Make your audience feel valued by building lasting, authentic relationships with them. You can do this by:

  • Quickly respond to inquiries, regardless of whether a DM is answered on Twitter or an email from customer service is answered
  • Set up branded hashtags on social media platforms and contact people who use those tags
  • I thank users for their feedback and encourage them to leave ratings

MoonPie implemented this strategy well.

Conclusion

OK, so it's not the most versatile app out there, but the Dispo app may still be worth serious consideration if you're targeting a millennial audience. Once in the app, you can easily send marketing images to support your advertising campaigns. The Photo Roll feature can help you develop your brand story.

Even so, it's still a new app. It's unclear how many people will download it, and we don't know how actively people will be engaging with the platform. However, if you're lucky enough to receive an invite (or get one out) it's worth giving it a try.
