Get misplaced in Martin Parr and Bathroom Papers unusual and fantastic new e book
What do you get when you cross Martin Parr's ironic and colorful documentary photography with the funny tableaus of the semi-annual art magazine Toiletpaper? A visual feast, of course, in the form of the aptly named new photo book ToiletMartin PaperParr.
Since 2010, the creative people behind Toiletpaper, Maurizio Catellan and Pierpaolo Ferrari, have created a niche to create images that combine the colloquial language of commercial image design with surrealism.
The duo has worked with Parr several times, but first teamed up with him in 2018 for a special issue of the magazine that paired some of Parr's classic photographs and juxtaposed them with their own images.
The same approach was followed with ToiletMartin PaperParr, a new 200-page volume in which images of the artists appear side by side on its pages.
Cattelan talks to Magnum Photos about the new book and their collaboration with Parr, describing him as a "brother you sometimes admire and sometimes like to kick your balls".
"If Martin didn't exist, we would have to invent him. Finding Martin was like finding another part of us: we always felt that we were twins at birth, that we grew up in different environments and that we were different finally reunited under the same publisher, ”added Cattelan.
