HostGator is a powerful web hosting service with most hosting options and it caters to everyone from beginners to experts. While they offer many of the same things a hosting service like Bluehost could offer, their strength lies in getting specific with their hosting offerings and allowing you to really personalize what you want in your hosting package.
This is probably why two million others are using them for reliable hosting. Because of these and many other useful features, HostGator is on my list of the best web hosting services.
HostGator compared to the best web hosting services
HostGator lets you start any site on a budget. It's accessible to the point where you can host a website for just $ 2.75 a month. And yes, they offer ample customer support as well as a live chat feature that you can access anytime. They also offer free SSL certification and a free domain name.
That puts HostGator firmly on my list of the eight best web hosting services as one of the cheapest options. I have carefully reviewed every web host in the market to make sure I only recommend the best to choose the rest. For this reason, I've created a detailed guide to guide you through to making an informed web hosting decision for your website.
Check out all of our top deals here and get ready to learn how to choose a service and what to look for. Now let's take a look at everything that HostGator has to offer and how it can measure up to other web hosts on the market.
Who is HostGator best for?
To put it simply, HostGator is best for beginners who are looking for a low barrier to hosting service. If you're looking for one of the easiest, most affordable website hosts to get your website up and running, HostGator is a great place to start.
HostGator: the pros and cons
Like any other website builder, HostGator has a list of pros and cons, depending on where you stand. It goes without saying that no hosting service is perfect.
Regardless of which service you choose, issues such as occasional downtime or technical issues can arise. However, it is best to review the pros and cons of each website builder to see who they best serve.
benefits
Free migration: If you don't want to deal with migrations and the fees that come with them, HostGator has your back and migrates your website for free. Other sites with similar functionality can charge you a pretty penny for this type of service.
24/7 support: HostGator takes customer support seriously. You can reach them whenever you want via the live chat function, regardless of the day or hour.
99.9% availability guarantee: Not all hosting providers are brave enough to offer this guarantee, but HostGator is. As you may already know, if you want your website to maintain its rank on Google, have a good online reputation, and be accessible to your audience at all times, availability is vital. Knowing that HostGator cares enough about availability to offer a guarantee, you can have peace of mind.
Free domain for one year: Similar to Bluehost, HostGator lets you register a free domain name with them for a year. Anything that makes building a website easy is always a plus in my book.
disadvantage
Higher renewal prices: Granted, many hosting providers offer you entry-level pricing to get your foot in the door. However, when it is time to renew your annual plan, these prices tend to go up. For HostGator, this is definitely the case. So it's a factor to consider when budgeting and thinking long term.
No staging options: Staging is a great option if you're a developer who needs to test changes or fix bugs. Unfortunately, HostGator doesn't currently offer this. You need to install a third party staging plugin.
HostGator pricing
There is a lot to do when it comes to HostGator hosting options. As I mentioned earlier, they offer you a variety of buffet hosting options.
To start off, HostGator includes the following options, regardless of which plans you choose:
- Unlimited MySQL databases
- An availability guarantee of 99.9%
- Server monitoring around the clock
- Unlimited FTP users
- One-click installations
- 24/7/365 customer support
- Bandwidth not measured
- cPanel control panel
- Free migration
Once you know they are all included, here are the types of hosting services HostGator offers:
- Web hosting
- Cloud hosting
- WordPress hosting
- VPS hosting
- Special hosting
How exactly does everyone measure and what do they offer?
Web hosting

- Hatchling Plan – $ 2.75 per month
- Baby Plan – $ 3.95 per month
- Business Plan – $ 5.95 per month
Each plan has a 36 month billing cycle. However, you can adjust this to shorter billing cycles at any time. Note, however, that doing this will change your monthly prices. For simplicity, I chose the longest billing cycle as this is the cheapest option.
For web hosting, all three plans include one-click installs and unlimited email addresses. The business plan offers something more. This means that you have a private SSL, dedicated IP address and free VoIP phone service.
In this category, the hatchling plan is the most basic plan to work with. It only allows hosting one domain. This makes HostGator a great entry-level hosting provider if you want to get your one site up and running quickly.
Cloud hosting

- Hatchling Cloud – $ 4.95 per month
- Baby Cloud – $ 6.57 per month
- Business Cloud – $ 9.95 per month
HostGator stands out as a reliable cloud hosting provider with three different options. You first need to decide how much RAM you will need. Your 2GB hatchling plan can be a solid starter option.
You can go as high as the Business Cloud option with 6GB of RAM, however. The top tier in their cloud hosting plan includes dedicated IP and VoIP phone service for just $ 9.95 per month. Learn more about HostGator Cloud Hosting.
WordPress hosting

- Starter Plan – $ 5.95 per month
- Standard plan – $ 7.95 per month
- Business plan – $ 9.95 per month
If you already know that you are hosting your website with WordPress, then you should pay close attention to HostGator's WordPress hosting solutions. Choosing between each level is easy. All you have to do is take into account how much traffic your website is receiving and whether you are trying to host one or more websites.
The Starter Plan is best for around 100,000 monthly visitors, while the Standard Plan can manage up to 200,000 website visitors. If you have a popular website that is getting at least 500,000 hits a month, the safest option is to choose the business plan. Each tier is inexpensive and accessible to the amount of web traffic they can manage. This is another reason why I highly recommend HostGator as a starter site hosting provider.
VPS hosting

- Snappy 2000 – $ 19.95 per month
- Snappy 4000 – $ 29.95 per month
- Snappy 8000- $ 39.95 per month
With HostGator's VPS hosting plan, you have fewer service restrictions and a number of additional features. As you grow, you can easily add more RAM, CPU, or storage space to accommodate your site.
Having a virtual server for your site ensures that you have more control over your site's hosting environment in a cost-effective way. This is another example of HostGator's flexibility as a hosting provider, which is one of my favorite features.
Special hosting

- Value Server – $ 89.98 per month
- Power Server – $ 119.89 per month
- Enterprise Server – $ 139.99 per month
HostGator's dedicated hosting category can be summed up in one word: Maximize. You choose a hard drive and how much RAM you need, depending on the needs of your site. Then they offer you IP-based firewall protection.
Dedicated servers can host websites that are in full growth mode. They need powerful features that will allow them to grow while minimizing downtime, space constraints, and technical difficulties that can arise with a less robust hosting plan.
When you go for the dedicated hosting route, you can be sure that HostGator will give you all the hosting and site management tools you could want. Their ability to adapt their offers to your needs sets them apart as a high-performance web hosting provider.
HostGator Deals

We've already found HostGator to be a great option for any landing page or website that needs advanced options that range from blogging to personal use to entrepreneurship. But what are their main offerings?
Here's a closer look.
Shared & cloud hosting
HostGator gives you the standard package that you can find with any reliable hosting provider with these options. What sets them apart in this camp are unlimited storage functions and unmeasured bandwidth. Remember that all of this also comes with guaranteed availability. With the starting prices you get with shared hosting on HostGator, it is definitely a competitor to other providers like Bluehost.
The difference between shared hosting and cloud hosting is straightforward. Shared hosting is when you've shared a server with multiple other sites and all clients are sharing the available bandwidth. Cloud hosting is when your site is hosted on multiple shared servers instead of just one.
WordPress hosting
As you would expect, the WordPress hosting option includes a free domain that WordPress has ready and installed so you can start publishing on your website, as well as an easy-to-use control panel. HostGator also offers numerous website security features such as website backup and malware protection. The WordPress hosting option is exactly what it sounds like: hosting in a way that directly targets WordPress websites.
VPS hosting
VPS hosting is when a fully virtual private server is divided into dedicated hosting areas for each client. HostGator's VPS hosting option is the way to go if you are looking for world class website hosting tools such as: E.g. the ability to host unlimited domains, create unlimited email addresses, databases and FTP accounts. The web hosting feature that is crucial to VPS hosting is the external backup that is done for you weekly.
Special hosting
If you want the absolute best hosting, HostGator offers dedicated hosting to bring you a range of valuable web hosting tools. You have numerous customization options to maximize the efficiency of your site with a dedicated server for your site.
They guarantee that your website will stay up and running and allow you to manage it yourself or have your team manage it entirely for you. HostGator also helps with technical or custom software installations. This makes the dedicated HostGator hosting plans one of the best in their business.
