Ikea's ScrapsBook is a recipe assortment on your leftovers
The ScrapsBook is published by Ikea Canada, who worked with ten different North American chefs, including Craig Wong and Trevor Bird, to develop the recipes. The aim is to help people save bits and pieces that would otherwise be thrown away and use them for dinner instead.
Or, as Ikea puts it in the introduction to the cookbook: “Scrapcooking is about finding the beautiful options in that banana peel, radish top, or even the chicken bones that you want to toss, and getting the most out of whatever comes to your mind Available . ”
While the recipe book is specifically aimed at Canada – where the company says two-thirds of edible leftover food ends up in the trash – it would work just as well here in the UK. It also contains tips on how to make food last longer (hanging hanging baskets of vegetables over a bowl of water on the windowsill) and – from Ikea – ideas on how to best store your leftovers.
This is all part of Ikea's efforts to become a more sustainable company and encourage its consumers to take greener avenues. Earlier this year, the Homeware brand launched an ad celebrating frugal living and showing people what Ikea products could help them become more sustainable. The brand intends to use only recycled or renewable plastic in its products by 2030 and hopes to help Canadians reduce food waste in their homes by the same date.
The book contains 50 recipes and can be downloaded for free and from Apple Books and Google Books. Some of the contributing chefs will also be featured on Ikea's Instagram Live for #Scrapcooking Sundays, where they will share cooking instructions.
