Inventive collaborators: artist Alice Bowsher and agent Dorcas Brown
As part of a new series that explores what makes a successful creative partnership, we're talking to artist Alice Bowsher and Grand Matter's founder and illustration agent, Dorcas Brown, about the compatibility of work and friendship
Alice Bowsher and Dorcas Brown have been working together for six years and met when they were both working at the creative organization YCN. Brown was part of the in-house illustration agency that represented Bowsher as an artist, which meant the two of them developed a personal and professional relationship at the same time – something they said was hugely beneficial.
"I got to know Alice pretty quickly on a friendship level, which gave the relationship a different professional dimension," says Brown, who founded the illustration agency Grand Matter in 2017 with Ciara Phelan. “Obviously it's still professional, but it's nice that we can be super honest with each other. "
"It wasn't like we were old friends working together, which can create a strange dynamic," agrees Bowsher. “We worked together straight away and got on very well. I think trust is a big deal and I feel like I really trust Dorcas and she is standing up for me in terms of work. "
