Kia unveils a brand new signature-inspired emblem

Since Kia looks to electric vehicles, the car brand has released a new logo that looks like a handwritten signature

To mark the launch of Kia's new business strategy and the updated “Movement That Inspires” slogan, the car brand unveiled a new logo that looks like a handwritten signature developed by a German agency, CR was told.

The logo design shows a parallel between the stem of the K and the diagonal line of the A, which now appears in italics and the word mark may cost something in terms of legibility. Though the symmetry of the word mark loses some of its handwritten look, there is a clear rhythmic quality – like a waveform or a heart rate graph – that picks up the idea of movement at the center of the new strategy and slogan.

Kia's former logo

The new look follows a number of high profile logo redesigns from car brands over the past year or so, including BMW, Vauxhall, Rolls-Royce, and Nissan, who have mostly turned to flat design to work digitally. As Wolff Olins & # 39; Forest Young wrote in a CR article last year, the removal of those logos with reduced embellishment – including Kia's removal of the roundel from its old logo – also suggests a "lighter environmental footprint."

While some of the redesigns lost aspects of their character over the course of the retreat, Kia's new look feels like a dramatic improvement on its dated predecessor. The new logo has already been introduced on the Kia website and social media. Its use in Kia's future range of vehicles, which is expected to focus more on electric vehicles, will be unveiled in an online showcase event next week.
