New B&Q advert highlights the hope that comes with spring
The pandemic isn't specifically mentioned in this new campaign, but its message that "we're going to grow again" clearly alludes to our hopes of emerging from the lockdown, as well as our ability to grow B&Q crops
With B&Q making a profit over the past year from customers taking an interest in home improvement, the company is now clearly hoping to repeat that trick in the garden space with a new campaign that focuses on its range of plants.
Created by Uncommon Creative Studio, the new spot follows what Build A Life did for B&Q last summer, which emphasized that home improvement is as much about creating a dream home for your family as it is about building some Hang up shelves.
Again, the metaphors come tight and fast as we are offered a sentimental vision of the power of nature to change our lives. And it doesn't elude the added significance of the arrival of spring in the UK this year, as it coincides with the careful lifting of restrictions after a winter in lockdown.
The stain's serious tone is paired with grand and occasionally trippy images of plants in full bloom and families planting seeds and bulbs together.
Directed by collective The Sacred Egg, it combines animation and photographic footage and nods with the nostalgic feel created in Build a Life, with the continued use of home video, as well as the return of Game of Thrones actor Rory McCann as voice-over .
