Plan your communication to save lots of time and power
As I often say, "You CANNOT communicate," but leaders often believe that they can avoid communicating with their teams and only focus on the "work that matters". Here's what executives don't realize: They're already communicating whether they intend to or not. It is human nature that others read into our actions based on their perception. And as we know, actions speak louder than words.
Plan ahead to avoid making a mess later
An experience I had with a friend brings this message home.
I love to cook and i am a clean kind of cook. A friend of mine took a different approach, something I only realized when she visited my house (prepandemic).
Guess what happened at the end of the meal preparation when we were about to sit down for dinner? There were dirty dishes everywhere. The sink was piled so high I thought it was going to tip over. I tried to take a deep breath and say to myself, "David, the time has come to change your style. This will be good for you." But it shouldn't be. We sat down to eat and the food took me just didn't taste that good. Why? Because I knew what my kitchen was like. I just couldn't enjoy myself.

Isn't communication just like that? Isn't it amazing that we always find the time to clean up the clutter? The truth is, we can always find time in a crisis. Why don't we find time to plan and be purposeful in the quieter moments?
That's one of the most important things to learn here. Good communication should save you time and energy. It should help you get through change faster and it will definitely speed up your journey towards your goals. As for a stress-free cooking and dining experience, it just depends on how well organized your cooking partner wants to be.
