Zohar Dvir animates a fantasy world filled with bubbles for Teddi Gold

The musician's music video Thought Bubbles explores the boundaries between real and supposed through the experiences of a girl and her cat

Gold discovered Dvir's work through Vimeo and said she was "instantly obsessed" with the director's mix of surrealism and humor. Thought Bubbles explores the feeling of not being able to reach a loved one, and this sensation underpins the animation of Dvir.

"My concept behind the music video was about a character who is there in their absence and characters that are based on Teddi and her cat Babou and cannot reach them," explains the director, who has been experimenting with animation since she was a teenager.

Dvir's film takes place in a domestic environment that is filled with plants and packaging boxes, but unfortunately has no other residents. As the main character and her spotty cat companion explore, we get flashes of alternate fantasy worlds – including sailing across the ocean on a giant cat and soaring through an underwater environment. Dvir's pastel color palette and flickering outline go perfectly with Gold's poppy-seed track.

"I used the bubble and bursting bubble theme to portray the process of waking from fantasy to reality," adds Dvir. "The line between the two blurs as the bubbles begin to carry away whatever has been left behind."
